the England attacker is settled with the Premier League champions but wants to see his weekly wage improved before committing to a new deal.
Sterling's current contract is due to expire in 2020 and given the club see him as one of their most valuable assets, the 23-year-old wants a new deal to match the club's desire to keep hold of him.
Sterling's current deal at the Etihad stadium sees him earn a basic wage of £175,000-a-week.
Talks are ongoing between the player's representatives and City but it is believed Sterling is not seeking parity with the club's star man: Kevin De Bruyne.
With Financial Fair Play certain to be on the club's mind, deals for top stars are heavily incentivised with Belgian ace De Bruyne receiving reported basic wages of £280,000 a week rising to £342,000 a week, including bonuses, image rights and a signing-on fee spread over the duration of his contract
